Autumn 2018

Creative Curriculum
In the first half of the Autumn Term, our creative curriculum topic was Mary Anning. We learnt all about her life - where she grew up, how she learnt about fossils, why she became famous. As part of this topic, we wrote a newspaper article about how she was struck by lightning when she was a baby. We also visited Ringstead Beach and searched for our own fossils, like Mary Anning did in Lyme Regis!
Mr Dailey and the Year 8 Sports Leaders came in to our school to help the children take part in various multi-skills activities. These included running, skipping, jumping and throwing. The children had 1 minute to score as many points as they could and the highest 2 children, Jack and Harriet, went through to the final at St Mary's Middle School.
In RE, Year 2 have been looking at the Hindu festival of Diwali. We learnt why Hindus celebrate Diwali, what they do as part of the festival and how it makes them feel. We really enjoyed making (and eating!!) sweet treats (coconut ice), making our own diva lamps and colouring some Rangoli patterns.
Our science topic this half term is materials. We have learnt about where materials come from, described properties and have investigated materials. The photos show one of our investigations, where we are testing to see which material is the most waterproof. We made sure we used the same amount of water for each material and recorded our findings in a table.
