Rights and Responsibilities

Rights and Responsibilities is an initiative from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.  It has been signed by many countries internationally as a set of basic rights for every child.  Those of us who are privileged to enjoy all these rights also have a responsibility to other children so they can also enjoy theirs.  For example, we all have a right to play, but we have a responsibility also to allow other children to enjoy their right to play.  In school, we use this as basis for enhancing teaching, learning, ethos, attitudes and behavior. In November 2008 the school achieved RRS (RIghts Respecting Schools) Level 1.

All classes have a Right and Responsibilities displays in the classroom which help to ensure that we all learn and work together, thinking about our Rights and Responsibilities. At the beginning of each academic year, children revisit Rights and Responsibilities. At the begining of each term, all classes start with a Citizenship Day that reminds us of how to be a good citizen and of our no bullying ethos.
