Safer Internet Day

The Main focus for 2015 year was: Let’s create a better internet together.

On this day, we focused on both the creative things that children and young people can do online, as well as the role and responsibility that we all, adults and children, have in helping to create a better internet.

Reception class spent time talking about how to keep themselves online and who they should talk to if anything unnerving began to happen.  They agreed that teacher, parents and other family members are the first people they should talk to if they felt unsure about anything online.  They also spent time creating password that would protect their identity and keep them safe online.

Year 1 learnt all about how to keep safe on the internet as part of Internet Safety Day. They focused on how to keep personal information private and who to go to if anything worries us when we are using the internet. We listened to a story about Smartie the Penguin keeping safe on the internet and created our own Smartie mask to take home.

Year 3 took part in some drama activities to act out how to deal with uncomfortable situations when using the internet.  They also looked at some videos created by other schools about internet safety and then created their own.

Year 4 also did some work on how to make passwords as safe as possible and created some ‘high strength’ passwords.  They learnt that to make passwords super safe they should use things such as capital letters and numbers.

Useful websites

The following websites were used as teaching tools for the day and are also useful for home use by children and adults. The websites include information for parents and interactive games and activities for children. Have a look together! Note information is age specific so select the information that is suited to your child when sharing it with them.
