Safer Internet Day 2016

The Main focus for 2016 was: 'Play your part for a better internet!'

On this day, we focused on ways in which we can stay safe when using the internet and the roles and responsibilities that we all, adults and children, have in helping to create a better internet.

Reception class spent time talking about how to keep themselves online and who they should talk to if anything unnerving began to happen.  'Smartie the Penguin' helped us to learn all of these things.  The children agreed that teachers, parents and other family members are the first people they should talk to if they felt unsure about anything online.  'Cyberbullying' and 'Stranger Danger' was a big focus on the day and we learnt lots of ways to keep ourselves safe, including: not giving out our names, addresses, passwords or meeting up with anyone that we don't know.  Also, not talking to anyone online without our parents permission and asking adults to check the websites that we are using to ensure that they are 'child friendly'.  We made our own penguins to help us remember ways to keep ourselves safe online.

Year 3 spent the morning exploring ways to be respectful online and why it is important that we all do this. The class came up with 9 rules to ensure safety and respect when online, the order of importance was then up for debate!

In the afternoon the children learnt how to create a secure password and depended their knowledge on how to send messages in a respectful way. Can you explain the difference between these three texts?

1) WHATEVER

2) Whatever :(

3) Whatever!!!!!

To finish the day the children came up with 4 rules to ensure safety of themselves and the equipment when using ICT equipment in the classroom. In talking partners, the children then made this rules on laptops for a class display. Our rules are:

1.No water bottles near laptops and tablets

2. Treat equipment with care

3. Only use websites and APPs the teacher says is ok

4. Tell the teacher about anything you see that is a worry or unsuitable
