Send My Friend To School

On Monday 27th April, we held our special school day which was based around the "Send My Friend to School" Campaign.  This campaign aims to make MPs and the Prime Minister aware that 58 million children are still out of Primary education.

The day was launched with a whole school assembly.  Each class then learnt more about the issues and what they could do.  We then wrote letters to our MP Richard Drax asking him to encourage world leaders to build more schools, train more teachers, make sure girls and children with disabilities gat the opportunity to go to school and that school is free for all.

At the end of the day, some Thomas Hardy School pupils brought the special box which all the letters from DASP children are going in.

Follow the progress of the box on the DASP website http://www.dasp.org.uk/Sendmyfriendtoschool.html

Handover Day
On 24th June, Frome Valley representatives joined pupils from 19 schools across DASP to deliver their letters and messages to Oliver Letwin and Richard Drax at The Houses of Parliment in London.  What started as one box had mushroomed to eleven and it was no mean feat getting these across London and through security!

The first stop was a press conference where Joshua was part of a group of children speaking to MPs, capaigners and celebrities about why they had got involved in the Send My Friend to School campaign and why it is important to them.

After a photo shoot outside, the pupils then went back into the Palace of Westminster to give speeches and officially hand over the boxes to their MPs.  Sadly, Richard Drax MP was unable to attend.

We are very proud of all who took part in this campaign.  Our hope is that all children will have access to education as promised.
