Spring 2023

Literacy and Science

In science, we have looked at different types of animals, including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, birds and fish. We then focused on 2 different animals - the blue whale and the crocodile. We used dual coding (pictures and words/numbers) to learn facts about the animals and then wrote a factsheet on the crocodile and a 'golden sentence' about the blue whale in literacy. We planned our sentences out loud first and then read back over our work when we had finished.
Art

In Art, we have looked at the artist Georgia O'Keefe. Georgia O'Keefe is famous for painting flowers and plants. We used her work to inspire us to paint our own pictures, after collecting leaves and flowers from the school grounds to copy.
RE

In RE, we have looked at the Jewish festival of Sukkot. Sukkot is a week long festival which celebrates the gathering of the harvest. As part of this topic, we learnt about a 'sukkah' - a temporary hut built during Sukkot. We built our own mini sukkah's using cubes for the structure and covering the roof with twigs and leaves, like they would do in a real sukkah.
