World Book Day

World Book Day

On March 3rd we celebrated World Book Day

In our classrooms during the day, the children’s learning was centred on activities relating to a particular book or books:

Reception: did all things super hero style with books Super Kid and Super Tato. The children chose their own super hero power to draw and write about and each made their own unique super hero cape.

Year 1: Meerkat Mail was the theme for the day. The children created settings in art and used their literacy skills to describe their settings.

Year 2: took part in a book quiz, alphabet games and wrote book reviews as seen in the photos below.

Year 3: shared their favourite book with their classmates and wrote a book review.

Year 4: designed book tokens for a national book token competition.

Polly Durrant

Budding author, illustrator and parent to children at the school, Polly Durrant visited each class during the afternoon. She read her children’s story Adventures of Tarply Flyte - The Tooth Fairy Crest also recently featured in the Dorset Evening Echo and on sale in local bookstores.

She shared with the children the processes involved when writing and illustrating a story. This included showing some examples of initial drawings that were changed and developed before making their final entry into the finished book.

Stories at Six

In the evening, the children returned to school dressed in pyjamas for a special story time and delicious mug of hot chocolate with their teachers. The classrooms were made cosy and comfortable with cushions and soft lighting to create a lovely atmosphere. Even the teachers were in their pyjamas!
